CUTTING EDGE RESEARCH PROTOCOLS
As a dermatologist, Mohs surgeon and cancer epidemiologist, Dr. Wysong is uniquely qualified to study the prevention and management of skin cancer. She is particularly interested in translational and clinical research and identifying novel genetic mutations in skin cancer that can help predict which tumors can be cured by surgery alone and which tumors are at higher risk for metastasis and death.
Dr. Wysong was lead author on a multi-institutional project that developed a gene expression profiling test to predict metastasis in squamous cell carcinoma. This prognostic test is now available commercially for use by physicians and to help guide the personalized management of patients with skin cancer.
Dr. Wysong has also been invited to write definitive articles on the work-up and management of squamous cell carcinoma in the New England Journal of Medicine and the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
